It is always difficult to estimate what costs are liable to be incurred in negotiating and finalising the division of financial assets between you and your spouse. Much will depend on the manner in which the matter proceeds and if an agreement is reached quickly then costs can be kept to a minimum.

Our typical ranges of fees for each stage of the process are laid out below.

DescriptionFee BasisFee Range
Voluntary Disclosure and NegotiationWhere an agreement can be converted in to a Consent Order.Time spent basis£3,000 to £5,000 +VAT (plus Consent Order court fee of £50)
Contested Proceedings First StagePreparing the Financial Disclosure Statement and attending First Appointment hearingTime spent basisIn addition to the above£4,000 to £6,000 +VAT
(plus court fee of £255)
Contested Proceedings Second StageResponding to questionnaires and attending Financial Dispute Resolution HearingTime spent basisIn addition to the above£5,000 to £12,000 +VAT
Contested Proceedings Third StagePreparing all steps up to and including Final HearingTime spent basisIn addition to the above£10,000 to £20,000 +VAT (plus Barristers fees in region of £2,000 to £3,500 + VAT per day)

In our experience most cases settle before the final stage and the level of fees depends upon factors such as the level of co-operation from the other party and the type and value of the assets involved.

There can be further disbursements such as valuation fees or Tax/Pension advise.

I greatly appreciated your efficiency and professionalism in handling it with a good dose of pragmatism but I especially valued your capacity of not losing sight of the ‘untangible’ aspects of such unpleasant process on the family which are often...
I want to say a huge thank you to Adrian Boulter for his incredible expertise while dealing with my tenancy dispute. Without Adrian’s advice I would have been completely unaware of my rights and the complexities of my tenancy agreement.  His advice was straight talking, and simplified what I thought was a complicated matter. Adrian gave me the confidence to stand my ground and his energy gave me the positivity I needed to see through what has been a difficult time.  As your solicitor he truly has your best interest...
