Zen qualified as a Solicitor in 1996. He had previously completed an Honours Law Degree at the University of Manchester, then sat his Law Society Finals at Guildford College of Law and followed by articles at a firm in Lincoln’s Inn in London.

He has worked on private children cases and divorce and financial cases from beginning to end, including advocacy throughout and final hearing, dealing with cases of internal and international relocation and child arrangements of how much time a child spends with each parent, finances including valuations of businesses, pensions, multiple properties, complex assets.  

Zen is recognized by the Law Society as a specialist in Family Law.  He is a member of Resolution, a membership body for family law specialists, and has specialist accreditation in children cases and complex financial cases.  He also sets questions and marks applications for Resolution's specialist accreditation scheme.  Zen has been a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500 in 2017 and 2022.

Zen has a wide experience of advocacy at court and has represented a variety of clients including business owners, directors of PLCs,  members of the police service, professional sports people and lottery winners.

Zen is a member of the  Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire collaborative law groups, qualified to provide collaborative law, which is a specialist model of negotiation in family law cases. 

Zen has been an accredited family law mediator since 2011 for both children and financial mediation and is qualified to talk to children in mediation.

Zen is a Professional Practice Consultant to other mediators and is an Assessor for the Law Society for mediators seeking accreditation. 

Zen  and organises mediation groups in Hertfordshire (Pathway Hertfordshire) and East Anglian Family Mediators. 

He has provided training in negotiation and soft skills to other lawyers and has provided training to Judges, Magistrates, and Law Degree Undergraduates on mediation.

Zen is a Children Arbitrator through the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators, part of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and can deal with children issues including international relocation.

Zen is a Civil Mediator with the Civil Mediation Council and mediates on neighbour disputes, boundary disputes, money disputes and workplace issues.

Zen is married with two children, a Spurs season ticket holder, beekeeper, tai chi practitioner and member of the Hitchin Light Orchestra.
