Many people make New Year’s resolutions and at Curwens, quite often we hear that getting your affairs in order is high on the priority list.  Making a Will is a good way to start.

Writing a Will is an act of love. It shows people that you love and care for that you will protect their interests even when you are no longer around to love and care for them.

writing a willEnsuring that the people who you want to deal with your estate when you die are appointed to deal with your estate is very important.  Also making sure that the people who you want to inherit your estate are named as beneficiaries in your Will is vital otherwise people who you may not want to benefit may benefit under the intestacy rules.

If you already have a Will in place, the New Year is the best time to ensure it is up to date.  We advise reviewing your Will every 5 years or so, or if after a significant life event has occurred – such as a birth, marriage or death.  Are your executors still friends and available? Have you preferred guardians separated? Do you still want to leave that family memento to a grandchild? It is also important to ensure your Wills are as tax efficient as possible and we have experts who can offer you Inheritance Tax advice.

Nobody can predict the future. On average, between 10,000 and 11,000 people die in England and Wales every single day.  Research suggests that 3 in every 5 of them will have died without making a will, and surprisingly that number includes one in every ten people over 75.young family

Over the past 20 years, I have seen thousands of clients, different ages, ethnic and social backgrounds, and taken many Will instructions from people in many different circumstances. One thing clients often say is that, whilst  they were hesitant at first, they found that they gained peace of mind once the Will had been signed or reviewed.

If you would like some more information, would like to make an appointment to discuss or review your Will or for some inheritance tax advice please contact Curwens LLP on 01992 463 727 / 020 8363 4444.
