Passing on the love of golf from the other side

Last Year, one of our clients passed away without any immediate descendants. Their Will left their estate to charity, but there was also a set of golf clubs to be passed on to a young person who played golf.

Curwens contacted many local golf clubs and national organisations, including England Golf, for help. It turned out that the golf clubs weren’t the youngest, and it took a while to find a suitable home for them; however, today, Ray Nyabola from Black British Golf visited our Finchley office to collect them.

Ray said: “Golf is a desperately under-rated sport. People who love golf love it intensely. My work is all about transforming golf into a sport that is accessible, inclusive, and empowering for all, spreading the love of the game and encouraging and mentoring the next generation of golfers, particularly Black golfers. We are grateful to Curwens for passing on this legacy.”

Omar Qassim, Head of Employment Law at Curwens, handed over the golf clubs. “I am pleased to be able to help a young person play the sport that they love. I also hope that through donating this legacy, we can help Black British Golf spread their message through the corporates and the community.

Almost 5 million people played at least one round of golf in 2024, with a recent study showing that playing golf may actually lead to increased life expectancy, with golfers living over 5 years longer than non-golfers!
