Bankers ‘honk their horns’ on sexist employers
Former bankers, Maureen Murphy and Anna Francis are suing Nomura following prolonged allegations of racism and a sexist culture.
The women were colleagues at Lehman Brothers before it collapsed in September 2008. Their department was taken over by Nomura, and its allegedly chauvinistic culture has now been challenged at Employment Tribunal.
Miss Murphy claims male colleagues told her she “belonged at home cleaning floors”, while Miss Francis says she was made redundant for being “too outspoken and female”.
Each woman is suing Nomura for £1.5m in loss of earnings.
Nomura maintains that it acted fairly in forcing redundancy on the workers, claiming their removal was simply reorganisation following the Lehman Brothers acquisition.
The case continues.
